    Latest NVIDIA Driver won't install

    Hi,

I was at the middle of the installation when an error came out saying that there was an encountered error during installation and the previous drivers will be rolled back. Please help.

And what happened when you tried to reinstall them?

After the error, the screen flashed and my theme was changed to Basic with a low resolution like 800x600 and then it prompts me to restart and so I did. After restarting, Windows 7 detected my graphics card and so it installed the drivers, and it prompted me to restart again, and so after I reboot, my theme was changed to Aero.

But I want to update to the latest drivers (ForceWare Release 196) but I get that error in the middle of the installation saying that it has encountered an error and that the new drivers (192) might not work properly, and the previous drivers will be rolled back.

Get THESE filled in please. Are you uninstalling the current drivers first and rebooting, or just trying to install them over the top of what's on now?

You need to un-install them and reboot first.

Like how? You mean like I'll have to open Device Manager and Uninstall the Display driver and then reboot before installing the new one?

With nVidia drivers it is best to uninstall all the nVidia video software (IMHO). You can do this easily by going into Remove programs (Control Panel > Programs). Uninstall 3D and PhysX first, then the driver. The control panel will go at the same time you uninstall the driver.
Then restart the computer. Windows will install it's own driver and you will be asked to restart again. You need to do this before you can install the new nVidia drivers.
Once back on the desktop you can run the nVidia download and install the new drivers.

Good post, TVeblen. I have found that Windows and Nvidia drivers can be a PITA.
