Sony Vaio not displaying fullscreen after windows 7

    Hi,

I have a Sony Vaio laptop - model number - VGN-SZ3vWP/X, I have recently installed windows 7 on it from vista and since then my computer screen is not displaying fullscreen, i.e - there are black bars on either side and windows 7 is displaying in the middle...

I assume this must be a drivers issue, but I can't seem to find anywhere to correct this problem, I've downloaded drivers from sony etc but to no avail...

My graphics card in the laptop is - Nvidia geforce go 7400 and i've updated the driver also.

Any guidance would be greatly appreciated and if you know of anywhere to download the biometric software also... as my fingerprint sensor won't work without the correct software etc...

    Welcome to the Forum

Try to right click on the desktop, personalize>then try display and then try resolution

If these simple solutions do not work

Go to device manager, look for any warnings about driver problems.

Reset your graphics card and make sure it is updated.

It's called Flat Panel Scaling and you can turn it off from Nvidia Control Panel after you install correct drivers for your graphic card :)

Go in the BIOS, there should be a setting to get rid of the black bars.

thanks chaps but resolution is 1024 by 768 so that's right,
no warnings in device manager, all drivers are ok apparently
downloaded nvidia drivers, cant find any for windows 7, so tried to run in compatibility mode for vista/xp etc to no avail...
as for the fingerprint, i've downloaded the software but it says no biometric device is detected...

The native resolution of you notebook is 1280x800. If you are only getting 1024x768, then this explains the black bars. I don't think the drivers have installed correctly. I'm having trouble finding a driver for your VAIO Geforce GO 7400 that will install on Win7.

Graphic card drivers don't usually install correctly in compatibility mode. The last supported nvidia driver for the Geforce Go 7400 in Win 7 that I could find is the Notebook 179.48beta, but these won't install on the VAIO without INF file modification.

You could try to modify the latest desktop drivers with the appropriate .INF file from Laptop2video.com. Both the INF file and the Driver 196.34 can be downloaded here.

The graphic driver is the problem! I had the same problem as you. Everything was fixed by downloading new graphic driver and installing it. OK!
