    Dell 2408 monitor

HI, I'm using dell 2408 monitor and having an issue with screen resolution. It only lets me set at 1920 x 1200. I usually set it lower so to see the desk a little better or bigger. At this resolution i have to set the text to 150% just to read it. I have 20/20 vision. lol CAD - skin using is called the wall - [url]http://otisbee.deviantart.com/art/ThaWall-DLX-88238516[url] 1280 x 1024 is the only one fitting perfectly to my monitor settings that are at 1920 x 1200, the larger skins that are supposed to fit are going over to my second monitor so i know they are wrong. Also some programs are so tiny even with the 150% text. Jaikoz is what i use to tag my music and it is so small of a text that I can barley read it without using cheaters - making me wondering wtf is going on. using a diamond radion x1050 card, guess that could be problem why i'm asking. Thanks - any and all help good or bad is appreciated Peace, t41

using a diamond radion x1050 card with the ATI 8.430.0.0 - thats what device manager says, but i downloaded the new one from softpdeia the other day - 9-3_vista32_win7_32_dd_ccc_wdm_enu i and thought it installed correctly, am reloading now. I know i had this in all ready, lets see. OK error messages well can see what happened , but don't kow how to fix it.

Thanks, but that driver is ok and installed already - just downloaded it and rechecked and says al drivers up to date. I believe the problem is with the video card driver.

Well i just uninstalled all ATI drivers and software - rebooted - also reinstalled Dell monitor driver for heck of it. Stayed the same
Tried to reinstall - 9-3_vista32_win7_32_dd_ccc_wdm_enu but still get error message - on ATI site my card is not on list for winows7 only listed for vista and xp - see thumbnails

    thumbs are
    1. ATI site - does not list this card for 7
    2. ATI site - list my card for vista - and when you go to download - it shows the same driver as for the newer cards, the 9-3_vista32_win7_32_dd_ccc_wdm - http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/windows/Pages/radeonaiw_vista32.aspx?type=2.4.1&product=2.4.1.3.6〈=English
    3. desktop with 1920x1200 with default txt
    4. desktop with 1920 x 1200 with 150 txt
    5. how txt looks in window on left pane

the version of ATI driver installed now is 8.573.0.0 - and this is the result
still have to stay at 1920 x 1200 anything less does not fill screen, and if I zoom the monitor to make them fit - well that just doesn't work, and defaults after logoff and would have to zoom in again. Anyway it's all very frustrating making me lol
At a total loss - guess ATI wants me to upgrade card, definately a bug in that driver for this video card.
Thanks for all the suggestions and advice

Have you installled the monitors .inf file? It's usually available through WU. Failing that this is the 2408WFP file from Dells site:

the monitor is not listed in device manager as dell 2408 - it calling it a generic - when i right click the inf file to install i get error message inf file does not support this method of install - if i install from device manager and update driver it wont install the inf file it just opens as a text file.

update - i had the disc so i updated by selecting disc - and it did the trick - i am posting this before I'm finished - taking forever to install - been five minutes and still loading - stops with time out error - analog or digital - gonna reboot and try again

Hope this works, gettin burned out on this ............

uPDATE - tried it all - remove monitors reboot , all i get are messages telling me that my monitor is fine - and drivers are up to date. times out installing dell drivers, which leads me to believe that the microsoft drivers are same or better, and the problem must be with the video card driver instead.

Will just make due for now - cant upgrade because this system's mother board does not support better card.

If anyone has this video card, and has not had problem using with windows7 please let me know.
trying to narrow this problem down
    Thanks

    Problem solved!!!!!!!!!!!

1280 X 1024 is the one I have that looks great with default text size. 3rd party programs all look good as well.
    1. Microsoft update, I had set for Sundays only, that had a lot of updates for Dell monitors in it. I'm sure that was the problem.
    2. I can only change it by going into advanced settings on appearance window and than clicking list all modes under my adapter tab I can change the settings.
    I'm a happy camper now.

@Smartyball if you didn't mention WU I never would have figured it out.

    Thanks again
