You have to use the drivers on the disc that came with your HD4890. Please can you do me a favour load GPU-Z and let me know how many transistors your card has. My card reports 956M the same as a standard HD4870...

I wish I could tell, but I can't get my drivers to work so right now all it shows is the standard VGA card.
I don't get much out of catalyst control center either, so I can't tell you right now what data I have in that screen.

    sorry

    allright
i have done some research and so far its not that disimilar from the other 4xxx series cards....
with that in mind i uploaded the inf file so you can force install the driver and after that install CCC...

    AtiInf.zip
after download open and put these inf files here (if you didnt do a default install then put it where you extracted your files...
    X:\ATI\Support\9_3_vista64_win7_64_dd_ccc_wdm_enu\Driver\Packages\Drivers\Display\LH6A_INF
(where x is the win7 main hd)
then update your drivers from the device manager
    if you want detailed instructions
    then here https://www.sevenforums.com/50790-post103.html

Thanks a lot, tried it immediately of course, but mmm no luck

It does recognise the name of the card on both INF files, but when I try to use it is says the following.

Windows found driver software for your device but encountered an error
The system cannot find the file specified

    sorry :$

you have to use the c7XXXX.inf...
where did you put these inf files?
are you sure you put them in the certain place as this is based on the standard R700 chipset and this is usually universal...
can you re extract the 9.3 installation, move the inf files again and like i said update your drivers through the devmgmt?

Mmmmm I did install Catalyst 9.2 this afternoon. ( I had forgotten about that when I installed your drivers, sorry)
So I just uninstalled it and installed 9.3 instead.
However now my whole dir structure is completely different, see image.

Does your solution still work you think?
And I just saw a posting of catalyst 9.4 Beta. What do you think?

    thnx again for your help
    Peter

i looked into that and yes it seems that the 9.4 has support for your card and will be seen as "ATI Radeon HD 4800 Series"....
so while i do caution you in using these drivers (if you are using win7 x64 then there is a patch going around..)
they are beta drivers so like i said use caution..
