There are two advantages to the GTX 480.

    1. Tessellation - Double the performance of ATI cards.
    2. GPGPU Functionality - Not the most important thing for most normal users though, especially if all you're looking for is a graphics card.

from what i have read, the tessellation thing is not too conclusive. the benchmark used (heaven) does not perform tessellation in the same manner as 3d game perform so that benchmark may be artificially inflated for now. still have to wait.

Some more hard data has turned up today on the 480, and apparently it performs only a fraction better than the 5870, might as well buy ATI.

    PC Perspective - Score a GTX480

I will never enter ati again.lets hope they sort there new dx 11 cards out im sure nvidia will surprise us all with a awesome card soon..........

Yupp, who needs fully functioning drivers anyway? Well, Nvidia has that side covered a lot better than ATI, since i've never had a single driver problem with all my Nvidia cards. On the other hand, you can look at this tread: ATI HD 5770 is Hell on Earth

There's a rumored prelisting going about.

nVidia GeForce GTX 480 shows up for preorder but the specs look fishy... - Bright Side Of News*

$700 if you have it to spare, that will probably be the only one available till around June.
one of the reviews for the listing

Pros: Owned this for over a five years now. Lots of fun. I bought this GeForce MX 440 for less than $100!
Cons: Some buggy games won't run, claim something about those "shaders" missing. Also crappy Vista and Windows 7 look fuzzy on it
Other Thoughts: Runs well original Quake and Unreal, as well as any DOS game you can think of.

nvidia are gods and allways will be to ati,,ati try to squeeze to much in to a card ,,hence it not performing,,and also most games are made with nvidia gpus in mind,,makes sense to go nvidia asweel as there power in the market and great cards

Please, hold that opinion. What features are going into the 480? All the features that are in current ATI cards. So who's trying to squeeze too much into a card. Not to mention that ATI right now has the fastest card on the market, and if the leaked 480 specs are correct, ATI will be having the fastest card on the market for the next year.

Yes maybe, but ati have had the fasyest card before specs wise,,but in games it never matched nvidias,,because the way it worked slowed it up..Trust me nvidia will have the best cards trust me
