Hmm. I have Ages of Empires installed on Windows 7 & it works flawlessly. When you uninstalled/re-installed did you remove/install back all componenets related to the game? Have you configured your game settings to something different than what you use regularly?

Games should only do this only when you play them.

What you are going to need to do is figure out what files are part of your video cards drivers. The .DLL, .DRV, .INF etc. files, then uninstall the driver from within Windows. Next boot on your Ubuntu disk and delete the video .DLL, .DRV, .INF files (NOTE: just the ones for the video card). Now reboot in to windows and it will load the Generic Video Driver from Microsoft. At that point you can install the correct ones from the web site. This should fix the problem because you will really replace the drivers. Many times uninstalling and reinstalling does NOT delete the files so if one is corrupt the problem remains.
