But yours does not work correctly ie:
Only some videos, depending on the player and codec will play across both of my screens, most of the time the screen showing most of the video will play while the other portion will be black or show the last frame before the other screen got most of the video. Right?
    Quick questions:
Are you running Windows 7 Ultimate Pro?
    Do you have dual monitors?
What happens when you open your media player and click the little 'expand to full screen' box in the upper right corner of the player?

Well, seeing as Windows 7 doesn't work for you, then yea, it is a Windows 7 issue, but only for select configurations, seeing as my system operates fine as well as Bare Foots.

Go grab the 4.2 update from Adobe and see if that helps.

THANK YOU Rik55 !!!, I knew if I BP&M'd enough I'd get the straight scoop. Now if you could give me the 'windowed mode' primer I'll be a happy guy !

It's a Win7 OS limitation. Horizontal spanning was dropped after XP. It's because of a change in the display driver model WDDM1.0/1.1 of Vista/Win7. You can no longer have full screen horizontal spanning. Only extended desktop. Windows treats each screen seperatelly. The only way around this is with ATI's HD5*** series and it is done on the GPU at the hardware level. You combine screens together and windows sees the screens as one big wide screen. You could try opening CS4 in windowed mode.

I have Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit. Windows 7 Professional is one step below Ultimate but functions the same minus a few features.

The video issue I have is not Windows itself since it happened in XP, Vista, and in 7. It has to do with the Display driver and the Video Player program, and the codec.

when I click the expand button on the corner of media player, it will expand on which ever monitor that windows media player is on. It doesn't expand across both.

In Windows XP, and I think Vista as well, the Nvidia driver had the option to do Horizontal Span so that both monitors would be one large desktop and when you press the maximize button, it would maximize across both screens.
In XP and Vista, I used Dual View which makes it 2 screens and when you maximize a window it only maximizes on the screen it is residing on.

ok, we're on exactly the same page and i think Rik55 just solved the problem, i really trust his info as this is similar to what NLE has been saying all along, I was hoping for an easier fix than replacing my graphics card but it is what it is and I can't wait to see if windows is even trying to fix the prob, it sounds like its a done deal and for the price of a new video card its well worth the cost to fix

Well, it is odd that when I expand Premiere across both screens (I just dragged the right side of premiere over to the right monitor) that I can play the videos in the Preview (sitting on the Left Screen) and Program (sitting on the Right Screen) monitors just fine and you can not.

It's true that Windows 7 treats each screen separately, not as one giant screen.

Still, when I open a media player - just tried again with Nero Showtime - and position it in such a way so that half of the window is on screen one and half on screen two, it still plays the video. I move it to screen 2 completely - it plays the video. I am moving it between screens - it plays the video. My screens have different resolution and aspect ratio - makes no difference apparently.

So for me, this absence of horizontal spanning has one effect only - the taskbar is on the primary monitor only. Never seen this as a problem. And one can not maximize a window to cover both screens. You can make a window big enough and do that, just if you click the maximize button, it will only fill one screen. I never use maximized windows, so that's not a problem for me either.

And, I have ATI HD 2600 XT. Thus - I don't think there is a Windows 7 problem. NVIDIA problem -yes, maybe.

sweet set up, looks alot like mine except mine has more junk piled around it . It must be the card issue explained in post # 60 in this thread that allows your cs4 to utilize the dual screen in cs4. Strange how otherwise Windows 7 is acting exactly the same way for both of us.
Note: when in cs4 and the interface is stretched across both primary and secondary monitors and the 'program monitor' within the interface is situated on my secondary monitor and I advance the marker in the timeline the image on the program monitor will display the image from that frame of the video in the timeline but when it is playing the image will remain still until I pause the timeline, then the image 'updates'.
The reason I bring this up is to confirm that you have MOTION on both screens at once within the cs4 interface?

Yes, I have motion on both screens but not at the same times since Premiere doesn't play the Preview and Program at the same time.
I click play on the Program screen and the video starts to play, then I click on the Preview (source) play button and the Preview starts to play.

I uploaded a small youtube video and am just waiting for it to process.

In premier (cs4) it would be the 'source monitor' and 'program monitor' that should play at the same time...but won't for me. This config within the cs4 interface works great with pre windows 7 set ups, but not win 7.
