LCD Native Resolution, EDID and 59Hz issues

I'm on the trail of what might turn out to be quite a boon for those folks with resolution and refresh rate issues. Seems that Windows caches a copy of the monitor EDID since querying it can be very time consuming at startup each time. There appears to be no "protection" on that stored binary value and I've been able to modify some aspects of the Screen Resolution dialog by futzing with the bits and doing a logon/off cycle. Anyone care to embark in this little research project along with me?

I need folks that are having issues with missing native resolutions, 59Hz, etc. to test custom override EDIDs. I can't very well create a complete solution with the limited hardware resources I have at my disposal.

I would, but the 59 Hz issues is statistically insignificant, so there is really no point in doing that....

But the cause could be ascertained -- my theory is that 59.94 KHz is the EDID clock and Windows is truncating rather than rounding one way and not the other. Admittedly, it's more useful for getting HDTVs and LCD panels to display unavailable resolutions when capable but the EDID is incomplete.

OK, since I have the 'problem' what do you need?

Or would this be faster via WLM / Skype?

EDID dump would be nice for starters: http://www.entechtaiwan.com/files/moninfo.exe

That's a good place to start. Then I mod the "modeline" stuff and create a .reg with the EDID override.

ummm, whenever I try to save it starts to bring up a dialog and then the programs closes. and I am running as admin....

Should I just select all and copy into a text doc?

Unexpected behavior. Sure copy as text.

Wista!, Need 59hz issue fix on 7.
       #9

My EDID info can be found in this post from last month or thereabouts.
    https://www.sevenforums.com/51595-post47.html

Im not going back to Win7 until this issue is resolved, as it affects me greatly. The only resolution I am happy with is 1080.
That said though, I will test it, I am due a reinstall soon anyways.#

Are any of you guys using ATI cards? I ask on the off chance that they might have fixed it in the 9.4 drivers.... But i should know better than to ask that..
