Yes, we ALL make mistakes. And your welcome for the heads up.

If it won't even post with the new CPU, you might need a BIOS update because that CPU isn't supported with your old one. However, I would take other steps before you attempt to flash the BIOS. Save that as an absolute last option. Have you checked to see if the motherboard supports that CPU? I doubt it's a PSU problem, but you never know. Have you tried using a GFX card instead of onboard GFX, just to see if you can access the BIOS?

What was the first CPU you had in there, before you decided to upgrade?

Also, use only one stick of RAM right now, so we can get things sorted out, and to rule out any memory module problems.

Just for clarification. When you power up what happens? Nothing? Or can you actually get into the BIOS, but it won't POST after you exit and attempt to boot?

No....its not even posting. I gon't know tho. I mean all the fans kick in, the HDD spins up,but the monitor is dead.I did check for compatability...it disnt say it WASNT supported....but it was in the yellow as far as that goes.
Heres a thought. i wonder if these modules need to be on DIFFERENT lanes, being as they are identicle?? Sometimes mobos require mem of the same density/timing be opposite one another....

That would be an Athlon 64 x2 4600 w bent pins. I picked this one up for $40 from a kid. Coulda beed his last OC failure for all I know.....hoping not, because this lil man should run well.

Like I said, just use a single memory module for now just to eliminate any possible module problem.

Oh okay, so you can't even get into the BIOS. In that case, I would be willing to bet you bought a bad CPU. It's definately not a GFX issue then.

You said the old CPU was an AMD Athlon 64 x2 4600...what's the new one? If it's an Opteron, many motherboards that support the old one, do not support Opteron.

Is the only thing bad about your old one, bent pins? Did you try to bend them back and run it?

Another thought is trying to reseat the new one your trying to install. I've had that happen to me more than a few times. I reseated the CPU, and boom...back in business! If your old one ran fine, but then you bent the pins and trashed it, but now the new one won't even let you into the BIOS, then it's a problem with the CPU, and nothing else. Barring any memory module problem, like not being seated.

Its a 5000. I never ran the old one. Like I said it was a donor rig. But I had most everytrhing for it nminus CPU, so I bought one and here we are..?? And no..I didnt bend them, it came to me that way. I think I'll leave that for tomorrow though. I will pull the mem and try to reseat at the same time.
I'll post back here with the results.
And hey, thanks for the tips/chatter.

It's my pleasure to help you out. This is the only place I can talk about PC's and people actually understand me...LOL

I wish I would have found this forum a long time ago.

Yeah, let me know what happens after a reseat.

Oh, and as an added tip, I've found taking a pencil eraser over the copper prongs on memory modules to clean them up works great. I also use a canister vaccum with one of those little attatchments to clean out memory DIMM's on a motherboard to be useful too.

Ok, well mafter removing a module, and replacing the CMOS battery, 7 is nopw installing like a dream...well...so far.lol
Still copying files. When it shuts down for reboot, I'll reinstall the other mem module, and that should be that. Now I have to find a mid-road card cheap for it,and more mem, and shes going to spread those AMD wings for me.
