Here's some more information on the suggested PSU if you're going to be getting a 480.

PC Perspective - Looking at the higher end of the PSU wattage scale
One test reviewer worked out that the New Antec 750w is made by Seasonic for Antec, as they have exact same parts and almost identical circuit boards in them to a comparable Seasonic PSU!

Sadly, after looking over all the reviews, I had to bite the bullet and order an HD 5850. I was really looking forward to the 470, but, there's just no way to justify it on price/performance ratio... especially when my game is BFBC. At my res, 1680x1050, the 5850 just crushes the 470, and even the 480. I got a deal on one last night at newegg for $289.00

I'm not sure why? I've always picked hardware that has the best price/performance ratio, and not just because I happen to like company A or B. In this case, clearly, ATI has the better product... the much better product. It would be stupid of me to buy the more expensive, more power hungry, much hotter, much slower video card, right?

I must admit I'm nervous though... it's a driver thing.

btw, nvidia announced the GTX 580 this am, 580 cuda cores, due out later this year.

    Yes it is.

As far as I'm concerned, if your looking for a good priced GPU, the Fermi cards are currently in the perfect range. Though that is easy enough to do when your opponent has set the field already. Now we just have to see if ATI reacts to the new challenger.
What sort of goggles do you wear O wise wun? You could buy eg. a 40" LCD Tv for the same price as a poxy Nvidia Graphic card! Which represents better value?

Sigh, I really hate it when this situation arises. 4-5 times in the past.. what 20 years now? (eesh) Since the DOS days this has come up where every now and then ATI has a much better price/performace solution than the nerest competitor and I am tempted byt it. And every time I "go for it" I am /always/ sorry. Maybe it's bad luck or maybe something else, but I always regret the descision and it's always due to a drastic reduction in system stability. I... just... can't... do... it... again! :)

Yeah, I hear ya. The last time I had to do this I was bit in the @ss too. However, with a 3.5 year old 8800 (g80), I'm between a rock and a hard place. I'm just going to cross my fingers and hope for the best.

On a side note, at under $300.00, if things don't work out and I have to upgrade again, I won't be that pissed... as opposed to the 500 something I paid for this 88, which is probably one of the reasons I've held on to it as long as I have?

You miss my point, a 470 performs better than a 5850, but is priced about midway between a 5850 and 5870, the 480 performs better than a 5870, and is priced a bit higher. At the perfect price points.

Besides, you can't fit a 40" LCD in your computer.
