Ok, I turn off my pc, for an hour. I figure ok, it will cool down, right? NOPE. The thing stays at the temp I left it on? Why is that? I would figure turning it off would drop it to room temp, but its hotter than that :s
Because just like a cpu, the second you turn your machine on, you're also running voltage through the gpu core, which is going to create heat, and lots of it.
Are you saying it returns to the load temp or unloaded temp? What program are you using to determine the temp? Fumz is correct, I'm just wondering which temp. Also an hour, I wouldn't think would be long enough for the whole system to return to "room temp" since all the components will need to disapate heat as well as the case itself. Without any fans blowing to remove the heat it will take some time for it to gradually cool to room temp.JMO Fabe
you might want ot throw soem extra fans in your case if you want it running cooler, mine usually stays just above room temp and my gpu is about 85F
Fumz is correct. Once the computer is turned on, by the time you have reached your operating system, your CPU and GPU have already for the most part reached idle temps.
To the others, an hour is more than enough time for the heat to dissipate to standard temperatures. How long does it take for your oven to cool off after baking at 400F? No more than an hour really.

While Tom may or may not be retarded, those temps seem to be about the norm. Of course, milage may vary depending on the maker, the heatsink/fan combo and whether or not the user adjusts fan speed, but just from a cursory google search, everyone with that card is amazed by the temps:

Here may be something. I have a sapphire, not asus. The fan is quite larg and covers at least 2 ram chips and partials of others. Might just be a damn good fan. Anyway, I just found it odd that it stays at the same or near same temp as when I turn it off, but it could be that the censors didn't reset, and its cooler than gpu temp progs think. Tested with and without aero BTW, and saw no difference in temps.
edit: Could GPUz be wrong? Could it actually be heated to 80c and not only 40c?
