LG W2242S 22-inch Wide HDMI issue

    Hello there

I have and 8800 GT with DVI/HDMI outputs. I purchased a LG W2242S 22-inch Wide LCD monitor which only has a VGA input. Not a problem as a DVI adaptor sorts this but when a use a HDMI to VGA lead...no picture as it stays on stanby.

    Any ideas guys?

    Thanks in advance

Have you tested the adapter, it could be faulty...

Thanks for the quick reply, the adaptor is working fine through DVI>DVI adaptor>VGA in to monitor

The reason it won't work is that HDMI is digital only and VGA is analogue only. You need something in between to convert the signal from digital to analogue. The DVI-VGA adapter works because the DVI port is a DVI-I port, which supports both digital and analogue.

What stormy said is right, you need something like this for HDMI to VGA HDfury, but they're pretty expensive for such a trivial thing. The only main difference between HDMI and DVI is you can send sound over HDMI natively, but as you're converting VGA, then you might as well just stick with VGA to DVI.
