Nvidia or ATI?
I'm thinking of upgrading my Nvidia GeForce 8600 GT. I am unsure whether to go with Nvidia or ATI. I have an ASUS P5B-VM mobo.

For the most part it's a matter of brand loyalty and preference.
Otherwise it comes down to price for performance, which both AMD and Nvidia are currently about matched for.
Though I'd suggest ATI if you're looking the the mid-range, cheap high performing market.
ATI is an AMD owned company.
Get a radeon 5770. Its way better and a good power dx11 card.
Not this again....
It is all personal preference.
I have a N260GTX Twin Frozr and love it.
However, the HD5770 would have been a better model for the price. (I had issues with drivers)
If you are looking at the 5770/260 priced cards, go ATI.
Other than that, it is all preference.

Like what's been said, it's all personal preference really and how much you want to spend. A simple upgrade for a decent price would be ATI, but if you do upgrade to one of the newer cards, your current CPU is going to hold it back if you're wanting to play games or something.
ATI myself, i think there better value for moeny and have higher clock speeds. Allthough i like both, mothing that nvidia has intrests me at the momment.
you can find GTX 260s for sub 200 all day, some around 150... Having said that, my progression was 8600gt Sli to GTX 260 to Radeon 5850, and the ATI card is 10000x the card the others are, especially being able to use 3 monitors. I do prefer nvidia control panel to Catalyst controller though.
I'm not a ''gamer'' per say, but I do play mw2 and mlb2k10 occasionally.
