At any rate, this was just a heads up for those who have Windows Update set to never check. I'm not about to argue over the best way to recieve NVIDIA updates. To each their own.
No argument here, I should have read your entire post first. I just saw nvidia update and thought I'd stick my 2 cents in. It doesn't matter how we get our updates as long as we get them.

That could be to do with the latest GTA IV patch as well. It made a ton of difference graphically for me.

And I would recommend like Dwarf subscribing for driver email updates from Nvidia because the drivers you're getting through Windows Update have been out since 13th April.

Getting them from Microsoft Update 1 week later than the NVIDIA website's release date is pretty darn impressive if you ask me. I'm sure we would all agree it's best to get them straight from NVIDIA, but not everyone constantly checks for driver updates manually. At least I sure don't.

Glad to see this update made such a huge difference for you, Fabe. Chalk one up for Microsoft!

its just better practice to get the drivers from NVidias site and uninstall the old ones before installing new , if NVidia release a major rework of the drivers the version oming down from microsoft and getting installed automatically will be problematic as the old registry and folder entries wont get overwritten

but if your happy doing it that way its up too you

It's the exact same update as what you would get from NVIDIA though. Plus the fact that it's been checked by the Microsoft technicians before being released. Whether or not you uninstall the previous driver is a user controlled thing. I've never uninstalled the previous version, and haven't had a single problem with Microsoft update installing drivers.

if its WHQL its been checked and verified by microsoft (which means nothing btw the last set of WHQL drivers released by nvidia had a serious issue which cuased the fan speed to stick and cards to overheat , microsoft didnt pick that one up did they?? ) you can download then directly from NVidias site weeks before win update as WHQL . and no letting windows update install the drivers definately isnt the same as uninstalling rebooting and installing them your self sorry

you may never have an issue , but thats not the point im trying to make , you might do and if NV do a major rework you definately will do

Microsoft Update is only able to provide you with drivers that are given to them; it does not seek out drivers.

What I find amazing is that nVidia bothered to send MS drivers at all; they usually don't, so yeah, laggin behind a week or so is "lucky".

No need to be sorry, since I never said it was the same.

And you can't blame Microsoft for bad NVIDIA drivers, since they didn't author it. I understand the point your trying to make, but it's moot. This thread was started to give a heads up to people who use NVIDIA GFX cards, but have their Windows Updates disabled. My intention was to help people, not to bash Microsoft. Nothing more. It's not a thread to argue over the best method of updating drivers, which we all seem to agree upon anyway.

But if you want to continue to be negative toward Microsoft Updates, and tell us how bad they suck, so be it.

LOL....I never said it did. Jeez, I'm starting to think I shouldn't have started this thread. Trying to help people out has turned into an argument. What a waste of time.
