Hey, not to change the subject (much), but I'm curious:

In Brink's sticky on the current 197.45 driver it says the driver version in Device Manager is 8.15.11.9745. Mine is 8.17.11.9745. Is there a meaning behind the 15 vs 17? Or is that a typo?

I'm not sure, but the one I just installed yesterday is the 17 version.

Brink, is unusually incorrect. I think when he updated the tread, he never noticed that minor number had changed from 15 to 17 and only changed the last 4 digits. It used to be 15 in 2009 and has been going up.

I imagine it's just a typo. The second number will change from time to time, and I guess he just missed it, and just ammended the last part of the driver version.

We can never trust Brink again.

But still, Brink's Sticky is where I get my driver update info!
A true service to mankind.

LOL....I never said it did. Jeez, I'm starting to think I shouldn't have started this thread. Trying to help people out has turned into an argument. What a waste of time.
Nobody is putting words in your mouth. I was just pointing out certain aspects of Windows Update that you may not have been aware of... because it was sounding a little like you thought MS Update was the greatest thing since sliced bread.

It's not a thread to argue over the best method of updating drivers, which we all seem to agree upon anyway.

But if you want to continue to be negative toward Microsoft Updates, and tell us how bad they suck, so be it.
I mean c'mon, you can't have it both ways. You can't say MS Update is awesome because "Microsoft Technicians check drivers", then, when a bad drivers is slipped in, turn around and absolve Microsoft technicians for not checking drivers.

Legitimate critique of the system is not the same thing as MS bashing. I mean it is what it is, right. I don't think you're going to find too many "ms bashers" here. We all, for the most part, really seem to like this product.

I never once said that "MS Update is the greatest thing since sliced bread." So yes, that IS putting words in my mouth...once again.
