As you stated to me, I will say back to you: I respect your opinion. I have no answer as to why your gameplay experience was not up to snuff with a Dx11 game on a 19" monitor with a 5770.

But, the OP is on a budget and the high-end 5800 series card are overkill for a monitor with 1400x900 resolution. And from what I've read, a 5830 might be too much--one, it is stated that the 5830 is longer than a 5850 which doesn't make sense to get if it won't fit in your case (and you're on a budget) and two, it is a 5800 series card which means it would be overkill on a monitor with a lower native resolution.

Basically, if the OP doesn't give a hoot about Dx11, then I agree with your suggestion to get the strongest Dx10 card the OP can afford.

With all due respect, that's impossible and that's not coming from me, it's coming from pro reviewers.. Unless you have 2 CF, that's is not possible.

I just ran Mass Effect 2 with everything maxed on my 19" screen with 5850 .. highest FPS I could possibly get was 62, that's a Dx10 game btw.

Just ran BC2 with everything maxed in a forest mission with Dx11 and highest FPS I got inside the forest was 52 (it usually drops a lot when an explosion occurs) ..

In Metro, it's barely playable when I choose Dx11 and max everything out, had to use Dx10 with High instead of very high to get a playable FPS, which was around 45 but usually lower in crowded areas..

In Fifa 2010, the highest FPS I get with everything on and maxed was 75 during gameplay and around 45 in cut scenes..

I don't see how exactly my 5850 is an overkill with a 19" screen.. This card was made to play games on 24" screens with native resolution of 19xx/1xxx yet it's pretty moderate on a 19" screen.. An overkill card should give over 100 FPS to be considered an overkill (IMO)

Anything over 30 FPS is "playable", and with a 5770 I average just over 30 FPS. If I want a smoother experience, I'd just turn down the graphics settings a bit.

As I've stated, I give you respect to your opinion. You have hands on experience with a 5770 and 5850 and that's cool. But as I have shown with your words I bolded, if the card was made to play on something grander than 1440x900. So to use it on 1440x900 would be, in fact, overkill. You will never have a problem pushing any and every game to it maximum resolution or maximum eye-candy because 1440x900 for that card is cake.

My personal gaming experience with my 5770 by itself is limited as I bought a 5750 to run CrossFire not too long after I bought the 5770. During the "lull" between the next purchase, I didn't game or bench the card--only watched tv. So I have a few games, DX10 by the way, that I can push 78 to 85 fps on a 4320x900 desktop with some decent amount of eye candy turned on.

But I digress... For the OP, who stated that he is on a budget, none of the 5800 series cards would make any sense to purchase. If the OP really want's DX11, then get the 5770. If the OP doesn't care about DX11, then get the best card he can afford. It's really that simple.

I darent play anything atm incase i burn my ATI X1950 out lol. 108c was pretty bad for a GPU.

Roll on monday!
So did you get it mate? 1st impressions?

MW2 runs maxed perfectly fine. A bit disappointed with GTA tho. The graphics look fine but it freezes all the time. Like a jutter every 2 seconds. I think thats my RAM tho. I only have 2gb installed and taskman reported 1.75GB usage so im presuming that once its upgraded to 4gb hopefully i shouldnt have that problem.

Apart from that im very happy with this card. Most of the games i will play run flawless.

Cheers for all your help people
