Proper way to add video card after using MB video ports
What is the right proceedure for adding a video card to my system. I have been using my on-board ports after having an issue with an inserted PCIe card.
Should I uninstall the ATI Asus supplied software for the on-board video and uninstall the video adpater (on mother board ) via device manager..then power off...insert the PCIe card...reattach the monitors..and then boot up ?
Then when the new device is found...cancel the windows driver setup and run the drivers supplied by the manufaturer ?
I'm trying to solve an issue psoted earlier in Hardware/Devices forum:
Suddenly get blank/dark W7 Pro screens only ?
Here's an update to that issue:
I removed my existing new dual DVI card that had been working fine for months...and connected both monitors to the on-board ports...and voila...system started as normal.
But...if I re-insert the video card (and set bios to GFX0 )...or remove it and insert a second working PCI video card (and set bios to PCI ) ...I immediately get the single beeb and black screen.
Removing card ( PCIe or PCI ) and reattaching monitors to on-board ports solves issue...re-inserting either card (without attaching monitors ) causes single beep and black screen
Switching video option in bios has no effect whether using PCI or PCIe card when installed.
System works ok if I leave the on-board ports active with monitors and bios at IGFX settings...if I leave one monitor attached to on-board port...and insert other card ( either PCI or PCIe) and attach second monitor to the card...then the single beeb and black screens returns ?
Neither PSU or new memory had any effect. Using original PSU and memory without issues IF I use the on-board ports only. Have two large screen led's and would love to get both monitors back on the higher resolution dual DVI card ?
Thanks...TR
