Native screen resolution not showing up with DVI-VGA adapter

My GTX 460 recently died so had to stick my old GTX 280 back in. This doesnt have a vga connector only dual DVI. But now my native screen res (2048x1152)isnt showing up in options. Bit wierd as I had this card connected for years with a DVI-VGA adapter b4 with no problems. I did have to go n get a new adapter, which is a cheap one I found locally. Could it be this cheap adapter?. Monitor is showing as an analogue in nvidia control panel, cant remember is this was how it reported b4. Screen is a samsung syncmaster 2343, nvivia 320.18 whql driver. Thnx in advance guys!!

Probably a dud adaptor mate but how about a DVI-VGA at the monitor end? I know you are going to have to get a cable but....

    Try another adaptor first though.
