I have the exact same issue, but with a HD 4650 / 4670. My computer freezes up when I'm trying to install the ATI drivers. It's always at the exact same spot when it's trying to analyze my computer. I actually upgraded from Windows XP to Windows 7 to try and fix the issue but it still is happening! I also traded my brother a 4650 for a 4670 but alas, that did no good. Same problem.

My computer has never locked up before, even when doing benchmarks on it and playing CPU / GPU intensive games. Just when doing this stupid driver install.

I do have my CPU over clocked from 2.5 GHz to 3.5 GHz but I've tried setting it back to stock speed and that hasn't made a difference either. My GPU is not over clocked.

I'm lost as to what to try next. Any advice would be greatly appreciated (I've put in my full system specs into my profile).
So no suggestions? I'm actually a computer technician by trade, but I'm in a dilly of a pickle on this one. Spent over a dozen hours troubleshooting it and nada!

Hello Ssset,

I still have stabiliy issues with Win7, but I manage to install the ATI drivers and the card is now running into its highest resolution. I stressed the card with some GPU testsuites you can find on the web, the card is running smoothly as well doing this.

To install te drivers, I deleted all the directories (Driver Sweeper does not touch this at all, is only deleting the drivers) in the 2 Windows directories on the drive and rebooted the PC. Then when booting in standard VGA is completed, install the latest drivers for the card (download them from the XFX website www.xfxforce.com). Download the drivers only, not the full Catalyst suite. This did the job for me.

The stability issues I have is related to suspend mode and there seems to be a weird thing with my Asus Gene II board. When connecting a FAN on CHA_FAN2 the MB becomes unstable, causing a hanging PC after a while.

Regards,

Coralfreak

Thanks for the response!

I actually need the Catalyst suite. I'm looking to update the color spacing to pixel format YCbCr 4:4:4 which, as far as I've been able to find, is only available as an option in the newer CCC suite options.
