resolution has gone to hell...

    I may be confused, is this a plug and play issue?
    Not showing your monitor SPECIFICALLY any more...
    I verified 1440 by 900 is the monitor's max res, could be on the way out, it's an inexpensive one.
    You seem to have eliminated it being the driver, right?
    BUT:
    Drag it to another PC and see if it works perfectly there.
    Could be a cabling issue, video card problem, etc etc.
    I'd want to make sure it's not the monitor itself first!

    yeah that's the problem. apparently the monitor didn't come with a driver since it is PnP and there is no driver i can find on the net. i will try to plug it into my laptop and see if it shows up as anything other than "generic non-pnp monitor."

    Im on my way out in a rush..............so have a look here TweakGuides.com - ATI Catalyst Tweak Guide look through till you find the section on creating a custom resolution , thats all you have to do :) force your drivers to run your res :)

    update:

    we had a bad storm the other night so i shut down the computer and unplugged it from the wall. after the storm passed i booted it back up and noticed a change in appearance on the monitor. checked device manager and my monitor is being recognized and displaying the correct resolution (1440x900.) crazyness.
