    another black screen issue

    hey
Recently went to my mates an used his mouse keyboard and monitor, when i got home and tried my computer it starts up and it hits a black screen just after the BIOS boots and the windows logo dispalys. The weird thing is the sound an everything still works, I cant see (black screen) but i can type my password and hit enter an the screen loads an dispalys my background, but with no cursor, icons or anything jsut the background?
I can boot into safe mode everything works fine, I thought it was a graphic driver issue so i deleted the drivers (in safe mode) restarted the computer and it booted fine. Re-installed the drivers (ATI catalyst 10.6) restarted teh computer and the same black screen problem happens again i can hear music and type the password again etc.....
Tried to roll back the the drivers and jazz still teh same problems, anyone have any idea at all?

Do you have on board video on the machine? If so you could hook it up to that to confirm its your video card causing the issue. Otherwise check to see if there are any other drivers avalable for your card from the manufacturers web site. Another thing you could do is try google to see if there is any known issue with your card or driver. If not you may need to start looking for another video card.

This might be related to overheating

I'm guessing you have an EDID issue with your graphics card / monitor. When you installed your pal's monitor your system read the EDID of the new monitor and reset the display properties for using it.

It could also be as simple as resetting the refresh rate for your monitor to the proper specs.

    or

You could try going into device manager and uninstalling the monitor then restarting to see if that sets things back to where they were,

    or

Uninstall the monitor and the graphics card (uninstalling all video apps first) then rebooting, let W7 install it;'s generic drivers, then if all is OK, re install the regular, most recent drivers for both.
