why don't I have the same setting options as you?

    hello,

my laptops display shows everything elongated/squashed and as for display setthings I only have:1152x864 ,1024x678 and 600x800
my laptop has an 17.3 inch pnp monitor, win7 os, 64 bit i5 core, vga adapter

at the color settings 32/16 I saw that I had more display settings: advanced settings->adapter>list all modes and none of the listed modes had 1280x800 you posted for the 17-18 inch monitors, every option still had a squashed look and it looked even poorly when I choose a lower resolution.

    what should I do?

ps sorry for my english spelling

This is more than likely a display driver issue, please complete your systems specs a bit more thoroughly, i.e. ATi HD5770, ASUS MRP45678ie, etc w/o knowing your hardware it's very hard to really help you.

one problem solved and so another appeared

    problem finally solved,

I went to ATI web page, because I have an ati graphic card and they gave me a little program that did all the work(downloaded the necessary files and drivers, uninstalled all the crap I installed stupidly and installed the correct drivers)...don't know how clear I'm explaining.

but another thing that's bothering me is all the upgrades windows installed...I have about 7GB out of 29GB free space. Most of the upgrades are for office and I have several folders twice: 1 with a name and another 1 with the same name but it has a x86 at the end of the name.

I also have a desktop with windows 7 but it's 32 bit unlike the laptop which is 64bit and the desk top doesn't have so much used space and so many upgrades installed, it's only half full .

Unless you managed to configure it without it, that laptop should have two video chipsets,

    1. integrated into the i5

    2. either of the ATI HD 5150 or HD 5450, depending on which was chosen at time of purchase.

In any case Dell has the drivers for both avaivlae on their download pages,
