    Ah.....I may be on the right track about the non native resolution..
    I found this comment;

    "Windows 7 boot screen is extremely awesome. It's a pity it's not okay with wide screens (which are, unfortunately, the home majority)"

    Just an update: I have noticed that the Microsoft Office assistant, (old version) which is a basic animation, is displayed in a weird colour.

    It seems to be only the lower resolution images that have these problems??
    (minimum resolution – 1024x768)??

    I'm thinking its somehow got something to do with how win 7 handles VGA changes perhaps. There's just too many different display resolution issues reported with win 7 to just blame all the video drivers involved.

    just found this;
    "Microsoft has lately revealed that if the display resolution is lower than 600 pixels vertically, Microsoft worries the DPI Scaling will not function properly. The system will ignore the change request if users try to change the system DPI Scaling."

    I have installed my old 6800GT videocard in the system and will do a clean install of W7. I am curious if the problem is still there?

    On my other computer that uses an ATI x800 XL it also has a corrupted bootscreen. Instead of the circling windows icon, it gets nice red and green interlaced bars at the top part of the screen. After it gets past that for a few seconds and through the bootscreen/bootloader, everything is fine (desktop) that is.

    Again, mine is on an ATI card that works wonderfully and had no problems in the past.

    I wonder if there are any connection between our hardware?, like are all the cards AGP's, or are all the motherboards using the same chipset etc

    My hardware that produces the corruption is:
    Intel E6300 Core2 Duo
    Nvidia 7300 GT AGP card.
    Screen 1440x900 LCD
    DDR 2GB
    Ausrock 4CoreDual-SATA2 rev2 M/Board

    I also have a Nvidia 7300 GS PCIe card which when fitted to the same m/board (dual format board) does not produce the corruption.

    What hardware do you have?

    here is a link to a thread where I have discussed this further;

    My old card is in fact AGP. It uses Catalyst 9.3, as the newest versions do not support that card. Might be that so called AGP powerbug?

    Ah thats interesting.

    I see dwelche post#6, also has a AGP card.

    So if audiolover has a AGP card? then we may have the common factor.

    ?

    At the end of the day if you drop the UAC one notch to no dimming and change the corrupt welcome screen to one the resolution of your monitor its almost gone.

    Re power bug: I don't think its that because the error happens on the lower images only not the high ones, and if it was that, why would installing a new O/S on proven H/ware cause a change in power requirements?

    This leads me to mention something else:I have run win7beta with my AGP card without any errors on another m/board using an AMD cpu, same power supply etc. That makes me think BIOS........

    Well now that i think about it, it corrupts now on another monitor, but did not corrupt on my current monitor when i was using it a month ago. Guess it is monitor related?

    I do have an AGP card, so the common factor might apply! I even bought a new PSU just to make sure that power was not the problem.
    I tested it with my other card, an Asus 6800GT and it produces same problem!
