It wont be long before SSD will become a standard and we can finally say goodbye to the old HDD, they had a good run but it's time to move on.

    Hi Mark,

Think I may have to wait until the price drops - was assisting someone on the Vista forums the other day who'd gone to SSD based on 32GB units and was paying £16 a Gig

Yep, SSD and OED as well very expensive technology.

Just give it 5 years though and they'll be giving them away with packets of cornflakes

Me too - although, by the time these suckers *are* affordable, they'll still be too slow for the BUS technology that will have been developed, yanno.

    Shrinking Technlogy

What is astounding though is that if we can get 16GB in a phone, surely this could be increased to put in pc architecture. Just look at the difference in size between a mobi itself (not even the storage) and a HDD??

They reckon moores law will limit processor power but already they have a new replacement technology for the existing processor technology

just wait until Nano computing DNA computing and even quantum computing get into the mix...
even though i think we wont be around we get here...
and even holographic storage now thats the future...
this made me pick up a NG magazine (National Geographic magazines that were in my basement)
it was 1978 i believe and they were saying about how they can store the library of congress on a single sugar cube (that a lot of storage on a single sugar cube)
they predicted the technology would get mainstream by 2010 but alas i dont see any clue of that going to happen....

Well, there is also the factor that copying to and from those machines is not exactly the same speed as copying to, say,a 7200 rpm HD....

Technology is there but it is prohibitively expensive right now....

Yeah, well, several years back there was a kid who won the National (US) Science fair project by developing a way to store several tens of thousands of characters on the head of a pin....
