    Windows 7 does not boot

I am running Windows 7 64 bit I have two Hard drives C: and D: when I tried to boot the machinne without the D drive present I got an error message asking for the Windows disk to be inserted.
Can anyone tell me why this happened?
It also happened when I put a blank formatted disk in the second slot, in place of the D drive

Any help would be much apreciated.

    Hi,

This happens because the bootmanager is situated on the D: drive.

One solution is to move the boot manager to C: using the tutorial below. Insert the disk containing the D: back into the computer and boot as you normally would, and the follow the steps in the tutorial. Once you have done that, shut down the computer, remove the disk with D:, and then boot as normal.

Bootmgr - Move to C:\ with EasyBCD

    Hi Golden

Many thanks for the help. That sounds like the fix. The machine did mention Boot Mgr in the error message. I will print off the tutorial and deal later today. Its 04:00 here and time for bed.

One other question how does the Boot Manager get itself on the D; drive?

I ask so I can make certain it does not happen again
    Again many thanks

    Hi,

If you have two disks present when you do a Windows installation, sometimes the boot files will be written to the 2nd disk. I'm not entirely sure why that happens, but its a well documented phenomenon, and we see that here all the time. Its very common.

To avoid that happening, only ever have one disk (the one you want to install Windows too) connected during Windows installation. After the original installation has been done, you can then connect the second disk without any problems.
