1. Are you using Windows update to get the driver on the 64bit machine?

2. Is it possible for you to use a home group (if not permanently just temporarily)?

3. Does your printer have the optional Ethernet networking card installed (an Ethernet port on the back)?

Hi

1. initially I think it tries to get the driver from the other computer, then states that it is installing, and then that it cannot connect to the printer.

2. probably

3. no, it is just a standard printer - shared.

Cheers

Try installing the 64bit driver from the HP website from the link previously mentioned and try again; if that doesn't work do the following.

Create a Homegroup using the tutorial at Create a homegroup (it doesn't matter which one you create it on as long as both PCs are joined to it) and then ensure that the printer is being shared through the Homegroup.

Then try and connect to your pronter via the Homegroup and see what happens.

I hope this works .

Ho Oli

Sorry if this is asking the obvious, but:

Do you mean install the 64 bit driver on the 64 bir machine? i.e. the one WITHOUT the printer attached?

Apologies for not having tried any further, not too well at the moment.

Cheers

Yes in answer to that .

Please install the 64bit drivers on the 64bit machine (the one that doesn't have the printer connected to it).

Hi folks

This evening, when I switched the computer on to try your suggestion, Lo and Behold the network printer was installed and working.
No idea what has changed, but hey who cares

Many thanks for your advice.

As I always say, hardware has a mind of its own .

I'm glad it's working.

As you are new to the forum I thought you might like to know how to mark threads as solved as well as the uses of some of the other buttons.

To the top right of this post you will see 3 icons. An orange (+), a set of scales and a red and white warning triangle.

The orange (+) or blue (-) denotes whether a user is on or offline (orange = on, blue = off).

The scales are used to give rep points; click this button if someone has helped you significantly or solved your queries (only give this to posts that you think really deserve it).

The red and white warning triangle is used to denote either an abusive post OR to mark a thread as solved (just put solved in the box that comes up and the admins or moderators will mark it solved).

I'll mark this thread as solved for you this time.
