    Is my external drive dead?

Well, yesterday I accidently knocked my external drive on to the floor 2 times, and today when turning it back on my entire computer gets random freezed/slowdowns once it connected. I managed to get all the data I wanted off of it back onto my main computer. I tried a quick format on the drive to start new but it doesent seem like it wants to take files.

Has the drive most likely failed? Is there anyway to be compltely sure.
Im going to run HDtune on it ina bit...

Check the cable and both connections (computer end, HDD end, and cable ends) connecting it for any damage. If you have another cable, then try it out. Could also run a full checkdisk on it to see if finds any problems. I see you did it from HD tune, but try it with Windows.

Sounds like the drive is dead.
External pocket drives are not delicate but floor drop can be a killer.

I marked it as solved, but I would give it awhile. Test it out for awhile before depending on it with important stuff. It may become unpredictable at some point, if it wasn't solely the cable and some unseen damage has been done.

Come back after some time, and let us know how it's going.

Update, almost all the files I add to the drive are becoming corrupt, I guess this confirms that the drive has indeed failed yes? Ive re-formated it serveral times...
