You need to clone your drive. Seagate and WD offer downloadable utilities that will mirror image the drive to another, and the size of the new drive doesn't matter. The program will scale the drive size accordingly if you tell it to.

Prior to a hardware upgrade, I will often take a spare drive and clone my boot drive as a backup in case something catastrophic happens. After everything is running smoothly, I wipe it. That way, if something bad happens, I avoid having to do a re-install, which is the best reason for cloning a drive, IMHO.

If you are replacing the parts with new different hardware, I'd do a freshie.

Provided you'll be using the same chipset, cloning is an option. But since you are changing/upgrading hardware including the motherboard, the wisest thing to do is to backup your data and then do a fresh install of 7.

One way of backing up data and user settings (such as desktop background), is using Windows Easy Transfer. It's a part of the OS and is easy to use.

i think im going to do what i did last time... just make a copy of my entire disk and copy it onto the new one.. then slowly weed out the bloat i dont need and transfer the stuff i do need lol.... it took like 4 month to do it.. kind like moving into a house and finally un-packing the last box. thanks guys... to a faster computer i go!
