second sata 6 hard drive dissappers

I am having a concern with my second hard drive whenever i copy or send any files to it. It starts to copy files and then it just disappears and then i have to shut the computer off and on to initializes it and it shows back up. The file copy is always incomplete. It is a 2T sata 6 seagate. My primary drive is a crucial 256G solid state sata 6 drive. I have them set to AHCI mode and am using a asus P6X58D premumim board. Any ideas as to why this is happening? Thanks for any help, roboto1

You should run the Seagate HD diagnostic to see if the drive is bad. How old is it?

First make sure your sata and power connectors to your HDD are tightly seated. Disconnect them and reconnect just to be sure. If the problem persists, post back..

Ok, that eliminates the HDD itself as the problem, is it still present in diskmgmt after it disappears from explorer?

Looks like an issue with the Marvel controller. Similiar to this:

You may want to try this bios

0813 I have to say if it is the controller i am going to be really pissed! I have called asus tech support at least 42 times and I even called marvell-but they would not talk to me. This is the most expensive build I have done and it has been a total nightmare from the beginning. The 0813 update finally allowed me to use the xmt function of my memory-prior to that, blue screen, blue screen, blue screen. after a month of replacing part after part after part I got it stabilzed- the only exception being the second sata3. I even changed my original m/b-RampaIge 3 to the P6x58.I did check out your post and it seems like my concern- the 0902 link is dead though- i'll search for it. thanks for your help-much appreciated! roboto1
