Linksys Compact Wireless USB Adapter G (wusb54gsc)

    Hi there,
just installed Windows 7 64 Professional sucessfully (msdn).
I tried hard but didn't get my W-Lan Adapter running. I read several instructions about installing different drivers etc. but the only thing I get is a "code 10" error...

    Any ideas?

    Thank you!

    Hi trop

    Code 10

If the device has a FailReasonString value in its hardware key, that string is displayed as the error message. The driver or enumerator puts this registry string value there. If there is no FailReasonString in the hardware key, you receive the following error message:

    Code:
This device cannot start. (Code 10)
    Recommended resolutions

Here are some things that you can try to resolve this problem.

    Update the driver

In the device Properties dialog box, click the Driver tab, and then click Update Driver to start the Hardware Update Wizard. Follow the instructions to update the driver.

You may be prompted to provide the path of the driver. Windows may have the driver built-in, or may still have the driver files installed from the last time that you set up the device. If you are asked for the driver and you do not have it, you can try to download the latest driver from the hardware vendor’s Web site.

I tried serveral drivers but without success (always "code 10").
Heard something about a "generic driver"? What is that about and how does it work?

When I plugged in a friend's Wireless G USB Adapter, it downloaded and added the drivers right there. If it is not doing o on your system, it could be a couple of issues - do you already have another wireless device installed and active on the system?

having one of these myself, just hit up http://www.ralinktech.com.tw/data/dr....0.46_Free.exe

download, install, remove the util from the startup folder, and manually change your driver to use the ralink rt2500 usb device in the listing (can be shown how to do that, if needed)

the few resources for using the linksys drivers that work in w7 all have the older very very dodgy driver, and they causes crashes. the one off the ralink site work fantastically.

    trop,

I have also just installed 7 x64 (Ultimate) and am also having much trouble with network adaptors.

firstly I tried to install drivers for my netgear rangemax next wireless-n adaptor. I got the same code 10 error message that you got. I haven't found any way of resolving the issue and to make things worse the intallation of the drivers corrupted and I was unable to uninstall them. I had to do a clean install several times before I gave up with the netgear adaptor.

Next I looked for an adaptor that was compatible with 7 x64. I went on the windows 7 compatability site and found the Linksys WUSB600N version 2 is listed with the windows 7 logo next to it. Also on the linksys site they have the windows 7 certified logo on the WUSB600N support page. Me being highly cynical at this point I decided to check to see if there were any windows 7 x64 drivers for the device on the support page. There weren't! There used to be but they have been taken off presumably because they don't work. People in the forums were saying that the vista x64 drivers work fine on 7. So I took a risk and bought one and I can't get this one to work either!!! I've tried to install the drivers in vista compatability but that has not worked. I just don't understand why this product is certified as compatible. It's looking like I'm going to have to take it back. If anybody has any Ideas of how to get this adaptor to work I'd be very grateful!

the driver download page on linksys site says XP, but it has a Vista driver that works fine in 7 Ultimate. extract the files from linksys download, and then manually update drivers in device manager. using it now.
