Unknown Device in Device manager.

I recently decided to to a clean install of Windows 7 7127 RC x64. I have been running Windows 7 x86 because even though I have x64 processors, my laptop came with Vista Ultimate x86 installed on it.

After reading about the differences between x86 and x64 systems and the fact that I have 4GB of memory that only came up as 3GB under x86 I thought I would experiment with Windows 7 x64.

My only problem so far is one unknown device under device manger. I originally had three unknown devices but the first two were based on my Nforce PCI system devices which I finally found here:

These are the drivers that worked for my AMD based Nforce system :

After installing the drivers I still have that one unknown device listed. I tried to run DriverMax but it only supports Vista x86 not x64. I also tried PC Wizard and a program called "Unknown Devices" that just tells me I have one unknown device...No Duh!!

I tried to identify the device by PCI vendor ID but it doesn't show one. Since the laptop came with everything pre-installed I have no idea what it can be.

These are the only things I can find to identify it.

Hardware Id's : ACPI\ENE0100 *ENE0100

Physical Device Object Name :\Device\0000005d

I searched the Internet and the only thing that came close to it was something called "Smart battery" which I installed, it works but the unknown device is still there.

I would be very happy if someone could please tell/help me to figure out WTH it is and how to install drivers for it.

Besides this one thing Windows & x64 is preforming very well on my laptop so far.

Probably drivers for the chipset, all I see on msi's site is 32 bit drivers, so you might be outta luck until they update drivers.

Could always try to download the chipset drivers and point the driver update manually to it.

Fubar65, The drivers you require are probably the ENE CIR Drivers, however, there are only 32bit drivers on MSI's website. Try dropping their tech support an email to see if they can help.

You could try the 64 bit CIR drivers from here:

You are right, the drivers I need are only found in 32 bit.

So I just did another clean install of Windows 7 and went back to the original 32 bit install.

Apparently there aren't that many drivers for x64 systems yet and from what I read 32 bit apps. run faster on x86 systems.

I am just going to leave well enough alone and stay with Windows 7 x86 for now on.

Find one here, it's what I used on an HP dv6 1375 with an unknown device in Windows 7 32-bit with a hardware id of ACPI\ENE0100.

If you still need a 64-bit version, try this.
