CD/DVD Drive not working... Please help me!

um hi guys, well i got windows 7 and this problem for some time now and thought windows updates would someday lead to the problem being fixed but well its still not and its been many months now, so yea i have a sony NEC Optiarc AW-G170S drive and when it is connected to my PC my PC gets all sorts of problem, when i put a disc in the drive, at the begining it kind of reads it then after a few secs the PC just freezes, sometimes i can still move the cursor but cant do anything else and it is really frustrating not being able to use discs, so yes i was wondering if there was maybe a 64 bit driver or something because when i disconect the sata cable from the drive the PC works like a charm! Please Help me!

Looks like it had 64-bit compatibility with Vista, but I can't find compatibility with Windows 7.
Here is the driver support page for firmware updates:
Latest downloads for SONY Optiarc DVD RW Series - Sony Optiarc America
    Good luck!

Go into device manager and disable the optical drive, then delete the driver for it.
Shutdown (= no power) your computer.
    Power up you computer.

There are no drivers for this, just the firmware (I'm shocked). Does the Device Manager show the drive as working properly?
Also, I'm assuming you upgraded your OS. What did you upgrade from and did the drive work correctly then?
