Well, something is wrong if you cannot set the drive for maximum performance.

If you had the maximum performance setting at one time and now you don't, something has happened--presumably because you used Hard Disk Sentinel.

There is no evidence at the Samsung site that your drive supports AAM--yet you tried to change performance/acoustic settings.

With a third party tool, no less.

Not a good idea.

As I said, I have no idea if you can get your max performance setting back. I know nothing about Hard Disk Sentinel.

Hi

The hard drive was never set to high performance I wanted to see if I could change it to that so that I could get better performance out of the drive. I guess as the hard drive is not listed as being enabled for AMM then this is probably the reason for the drive reverting back to the default setting. I've now removed that software.

It may well be that your drive has only 1 setting: low performance and low noise. That might be standard procedure, particularly if it is a notebook or laptop drive. I don't think you would see that on a high speed desktop drive.

If I were you, I would still contact Samsung to confirm that your drive is NOT adjustable--with HUTIL or any other tool. It's slightly peculiar that you would be locked into one setting, but that may be the way it is.

Ok thanks I'll contact Samsung to ask them about that. I will also ask them what software I can use to test the drive with if I experience problems in the future as it does not work with HUTIL.

Thanks for your help anyway.

+1 even if you can get max performance you only gain a milliesecond or two which is so small you wouldn't notice it. Most hard drives are already set to give you the best performance, just my 2 cents
