trying to get a SSD recognised

    Hi
I have spent all day trying to install a 60gb SSD as my main boot drive but am stalled even trying to get it recognised in "My Computer"

I can see it in Disk management - have formatted it and made it active.. so far so good!
when I click on the partition and click properties I get the pie chart showing 55.8gb free space but used space as 91.4gb?
pie chart is showing it all empty but the figures above are wrong!
also cannot click "explore" on this drive either.
I have looked at it in "shadow protect" and get the same figures.
I cant do a restore to it as it says partition not got enough space.

when I click my computer i see my other two drives but not this one?

I tried enabling AHCI as recommended elsewhere but I get a BSD !

I am completely stumped can anyone help me please?

    Mike

Try Treesize to see what the heck is going on.

What type of SSD is this?

Also, can you fill in your system specs please. it will make things much easier.

It is possible this a known issue a FW or Bios update resolves. But thats just a guess at this point.

    Mpooley,

    Two matters:
One--we can better help you if you will help us by filling out your system specs.

Two--Using the Snipping Tool, take a snapshot of the maximized output of Disk Management and attach to your next post.

Here is some info and links you may need:
    ________________________________________

HOW TO FILL OUT YOUR SYSTEM SPECS

In the line at the top of www.SevenForums.com you will see UserCP.
That is an abbreviation for User Control Panel.
    Click on UserCP.
In the left-hand column, under Your Profile you will see Edit System Spec.
    Click on Edit System Spec
You can copy and paste from the output of Speccy, Speccy - System Information - Free Download to fill out much of the info. Be sure to use the Other Info section of your System Specs for such info as your optical drive, your wireless adapter, your speakers, etc.
    ________________________________________

    The Snipping Tool:
WIN | type SNIP | ENTER key

I have pinned the Snipping Tool to the taskbar due to frequent use.

WIN is the key with the wavy flag.
    ________________________________________
    To run disk management
    WIN | type DISKMGMT.MSC | ENTER key

Remember to maximize the disk management display and to increase the size of any columns which the display has truncated.

If you're a keyboard user, then Alt + Spacebar, then the letter x will maximize for you.

If it really shows 94GBs used (are you sure those are not 94MBs) on a 60GB drive, something is wrong with the MFT. In that case I would do another quick format of the drive. Use a different program for formatting like Partition Wizard

Poking around a bit, it looks as if these drive have a few known issues, similair to yours.

There are 2 possible solutions I found so far (still looking) that have worked for some.

Getting the Bios to properly recognize the Drive:
1.) Disconnect ALL other drives except the SSD. Install Windows.

2.) A Complete Motherboard power Down and restart may help

For AHCI, if you installed Windows in IDE mode, you will need to do registry tweak to enable AHCI at this point.
OR, re-install with the AHCI mode enabled.

The official Corsair forums have a lot of info about these issues. Still looking through for more possible fixes.

OK, that sounds better and is normal. It is probably the alignment.
