D: Access is Denied

The system files on the boot drive is corrupt, can anyone help me get the data off. What am I missing, I have tried the following so far;

Connected to another PC using a ext. drive
Take ownership
Set permission

You running as admin?

Is the data drive encrypted?

It might help if you can get into the Security settings of the drive and allow for permissions there as well.

Open My Computer -> right click Local Disk D -> select Properties -> select Security tab -> click Edit button -> click Add button -> enter the name of the User you want to set Security permissions (it is the same user name you've set the sharing permissions for, ex. Everyone will set the read permissions to every user which will attempt to connect to your shared drive) -> click OK -> select the desired permissions -> click OK -> wait while permissions are set -> and your Done.

I need to provide more info, this drive was from anther system (it was the boot drive with windows vista). The it looks like some of the system files are corrupt. I tried to restore & nothing. So I have remove the drive from that PC & connected it to another PC using an ESATA/USB external drive. I was trying to copy the data over to another drive & restore the file after a clean install of win7. The external drive is connect to a my system which is running window7 64 ultimate & Norton 2010 360 security. I have heard if the files have a virus windows will not let you access the drive.

I have tried the your fix before posting here, it scans the files setting the permissions & finishes with no problems. I go to try to access the drive & access is denied, any other ideas.
