USB input device issues

Just got a new computer running Win7Pro64. The only input devices that function properly are my Logitech G500 and a PS/2 keyboard/mouse combo from my old Compaq system. All standard USB mice & keyboards (wired or wireless) don't function properly.

Keyboard Issues: A single key press randomly returns multiple characters (such as iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii instead of a single letter i). Also key presses are very often not recognized by OS.

Mouse Issues: Whenever the cursor passes over an item with which it can interact I get serious lag (cursor freezes for several seconds). Same thing happens when I click and drag the cursor.

USB connections work as expected with flash drives, external HDs and my G500 (though the G500 would constantly dis|reconnect when plugged into Win7 machine with USB extension cable I use on my XP machine).
All input devices function OK under XP SP3.

Hmm, I also have an annoyance with usb mice.

When I boot up, I sometimes find its not working, the cursor is there and the buttons function but I cant move it off screen center. If I disconnect/connect, it springs into life, with no message about finding a new device.

The same mice work OK in XP-SP3, one is an MS ????, the other's a $10 Blaze VW Beetle. All other USB devices are OK.

I have a GB H55M-UD2H mobo.

But none of that solves your problem, but at least you now know you're not Robinson Crusoe :)

Have you installed the correct driver????

And have you also? Just because it worked in XP doesnt insure it will work in win 7. In fact if there is no win 7 driver you may have install the older one in compatibility mode

If it was a driver issue they would fail every time I rebooted, unless Weven device drivers are prone to bipolar disorder

Device Manager says they're OK - HID-compliant Mouse for both the MS and the Blaze. BTW they also both work on Vista.

My perception is that the problem happens more often with a Restart than a Cold Start. Its not a port specific issue, I tried moving the mouse to a front panel port and a port on my monitor, I still get the problem - sometimes.

To make the disconnect/connect easier I'm using an extension cable.

Maybe they can't get enough power, I've got a two port extension somewhere I'll give that a go. To me, it feels more like a hardware issue than a software issue. I might try connecting both mouses to see if they fail or succeed in unison.

I've already updated to the latest Logitech drivers for Win7-64. Aside from the G500, I'm using two MX1100 mice and the Wave keyboard from Logitech. My HP Wireless Elite Keyboard is also using the latest Win7-64 driver. The standard USB mouse/keyboard combo (iBuyPower branded) that came with the computer don't work right either; I doubt they have any special drivers of their own.

I don't think our problems are quite the same pjd. You seem to have an issue with the computer recognizing your mice as connected.

My mice and keyboards are always recognized and somewhat responsive.

Changing USB ports doesn't make any difference.

I don't think it could be a wireless issue. The keyboard/mouse combo that came with the computer are wired USB devices.
