    MicroSoft HD 5001 webcam issues

I have a friend that just bought a new HP desktop with windows 7 and bought a MS hd 5001 webcam. when we video chat, his webcam is not very clear and seems to freeze from time to time....it has auto focus which tries to focus from time to time which is visible on my end of the video. It has no manual focus knob like some of the cheaper cams. does anyone know of anything we can do to resolve this issue....seems to me it has to much HD for its own good.any help is appreciated.

Hi! Outburst, welcome to W7F :)

Have your friend check to see if he/she has the firmware file HD5001FW1033_3.21.exe installed

If not it can be found here:
    http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/download/DownloadResult.aspx?category=ICE&type=LifeCam&name=GNF-00001&os=WVista_3264〈=en

View the readme file follow the instructions. it may involve uninstalling any previous drivers.
This file also has troubleshooting tips.

HD5001FW1033_3.21 can be found at the third link on the above link.

    Your welcome.

It would help for further troubleshooting if you could update your System Specs

What make is your friends HP desktop. Can you give me a link to it?
Just so I know what I'm dealing with.....Thanks
