External hard drives what to get?

    There is an eSATA version of that enclosure I linked to. $5 more than the one I linked to earlier, and $10 cheaper than the one you linked to. Vantec NST-300SU-BK NS CX Hard Drive Enclosure - 3.5 SATA to USB, eSATA, Black at TigerDirect.com

    Sorry, I am just a fan of the Vantec enclosures, been using them for sometime and never had any issue with them. Easy to assemble and compact in their foot print. Nothing I've ever plugged them into has ever had an issue with their chipset either.

    Whichever solution you choose, an enclosure with a desktop HDD is going to be hard to beat unless you just have to have the ultra portability of a USB powered only solution.

    Okay so which of these do you recommend?

    Western Digital WD15EARS Caviar Green Hard Drive - 1.5TB, 3.5, SATA-3G at TigerDirect.com

    Seagate 7200.11 ST31500341AS Barracuda Hard Drive - 1.5TB, 7200RPM, 32MB Cache, SATA-3G (OEM) at TigerDirect.com

    I was thinking deff the WD but some of the reviews scare me compared to the seagate..

    Just wondering your opinions

    I am a firm believer of build it yourself HD & enclosure. A lot of the name brand ext HD's come with their own software. Some users have had trouble with using them back & forth on different computers & versions of OS's. I have used most bare HD's from most of the major manufacturers with very positive success.

    This week, I picked up a Thermaltake BlacX eSATA and USB 2.0 hard drive dock from NewEgg. $34. It comes with the eSATA and USB 2.0 cable.

    I got a Samsung SpinPoint F4 2TB 5,400RPM drive into it. $95

    Here are my speeds on my box via eSATA...I'm more than pleased. I moved about 600GB of data from an internal drive to this drive in about 90 minutes

    I don't know why but this has caught my eye. Add a nice 2.5 sata drive and your off to the races in style and it holds your business cards. What will they think up next. lol

    The other issue is one of speed and it's worth waiting if your computers have the newest USB3 or better yet esata 6g but then you likely would be only talking 3.5" drives and not so portable. Along this same line of thought I believe std. usb drives will continue to fall in price as the usb3 hit the markets!

Run two external hard drives?

I can only run one at a time instead of two. I would like to copy my 1.5tb over to my 2tb so I have a back up. My laptop only holds 200GB of remaining data so I can't use that hard drive or I would. Anyone have a clue on this? Thanks and really could do with the help.
