Old CRT monitor, blurry when contrast is too high.

Hey guys, i have an old crt monitor which is hooked up to another computer of mine.. when the contrast is too high everything is terribly blurry and unreadable.

I think it gets worse over time.. any possible fix for this or just junkl the monitor and get a new one? hahah

Edit: Oh yeah, the screen is focused while its still powering up.. but when its fully powered up its gone blur.

EDIT2: Forgot i posted this... just so that i won't bump up the thread i'd like to thank the two guys who posted here

Almost assuredly time for a new monitor. Either the CRT itself, or the pulses from the flyback transformer. The automatic screen control. The fact that it is focused at startup means it is raising the screen control as it runs. likely it is unable to compensate for the CRT, or the return pulse is telling the main board to raise the screen level. Either way, a repair would likely exceed the cost of a better LCD monitor. A Guy

I've been trying to get someone still running a crt on an old XP case to get a new one since the top of the screen trypically has several horizontal lines running across making that portion unusable! They always have and had a much shorter life span of some 8,000-13,000 uptime hrs. of life while lcd range from 25,000 even 30,000hrs. upto as much as 50,000hrs. in some cases!

Dump the boat anchor at the proper dosposal site and call it a day! Most lcds still come with a standard VGA cord as well as input jack on them.

They have the start of a vertical failure. Likely a cap, or caps around the vertical IC. The area will increase, and eventually "fold over". Easily fixable, but again, not worth it. A Guy

The manager of a local office supply has weekly specials on lcds sometimes for less then found online! Why fuss over a dead issue like a dying crt unless you have a special need for the old cathode tube?

Eventually that person who was once offered to take a better crt a few years back when the last was being cleared out here from old cases he refused! That had a better display with more vibrant colors at the time this problem was first being seen which has now progressed into the nightmare you would expect to see.
