USB to Serial Converter - Losing Data

I have a program that collects data via a serial port. Now the port went faulty and it was replaced by one of these USB to serial converters without my knowledge. It would appear that it now loses data at times. On testing it would appear that if the data is being sent at the exact same time as the USB mouse is being used the data is lost. I found this out by continuously moving the mouse and sending data at the same time. This is a Logitech mouse. This is now running on an XP Box but now if I upgrade to Win 7 I am thinking I will have the same issues. Any thoughts on this

Now this part is just for info but also concerning a logitech mouse. The program also uses a USB Dongle and I also found on another system the dongle was shutting down and giving a dongle error on the program. On this setup they had a PS2 to USB mouse converter running a logitech USB mouse. Also when you move the mouse around the dongle shuts down. I can actually see this by the dongle light going out. (I am not worried about this one I just thought I would mention it)
