I've just installed Imgburn on my XP on Virtual Box and it sees the DVD Drive.....
So........what does this mean ? lol
Have you tried uninstalling the drivers and then running the Compaq search to refind the drivers?
Just making suggestions.
I guess I was lucky on my HP's always found what I needed.
I suppose you already tried the below.

Method 1: Use HP Help & Support The Help & Support function, installed on every HP computer, provides an easy way to keep your software up to date.
- On your Notebook, click Start , then click Help and Support .

Yeah I tried all that.
Windows doesn't find anything to install it but device manager says it already has the latest version.
conflicting info
Maybe the Lightscribe software is messed up.
Delete Lightscribe software you have and download the new from Compaq.?
That might be it.
