How could it be bios settings if windows "sees" 4gb but says only 2 are useable?

What sort of setting would I be looking for? I've combed through the bios a few times, didn't see anything about disabling or enabling ram...?
just covering what you have looked at

I've looked at the bios, didn't see anything. Doesn't mean it's not there... Seems unlikely, but what do I know? I just want it fixed... It's not a bad mobo slot is it? Or could it be? I'll have to run memtest again

Gonna sleep now. Check back in the morning. :yawn

soz i have not helped much maybe your slot is damaged? have you had a look in the case for loose cables on the board simple things overlooked can often be the cure :)

yeah i checked the case, the cable management is done well.. im sort of ocd when it comes to things like that.. ive reseated the ram - windows sees it, just says its not useable which leads me to believe its a software setting
