    Hard Drive errors

My brother's just handed me his Acer Aspire A0531h-0dk netbook on Windows 7 Home Premium - He's asked me to do some work on it and looking into "My computer" everything looked fine. But I went onto Disk Mangement as he wanted a new partition putting in first....

And there are NO disks displayed.

So i have been looking around the internet for a few hours now looking for tips and things, have ran DISKPART and List Disk for it to say " No Fixed Disks to Show"

    There are No Disks
    No Partitions
    No Volumes
    No VDisks

Yet I can still see it in My Computer?

It isn't allowing me to see it in a windows 7 installer or any installer to be fair so I cannot install anything else or even move backwards as the last recovery date was 10 minutes ago...

    Any ideas?

There may be a group policy in effect to "hide" critical things from users. Is he the only user? Did he buy it like this? Is it a clean install.

    System specs might be nice.

As far as I am aware it came like this, and it was a clean install to remove other partitions that were left on the hard drive when he bought it.

Update: I've managed to wipe the hard drive but it still doesn't come up with anything and I tried to intall windows 7 again and it doesn't show up with a hard disk

    Update:

took the laptop apart... nothing was screwed down propperly, there was thing all over the place and the hard drive had become unattached - looks like whoever he bought it off was a serious attempt of a modder.... and a FAIL at that.

It took me nearly 2 hours to detach every component and rebuild the laptop from sratch - but good news is it now works :) so just re-installing windows 7 and all is good :)
