Battery always showing 100% remaining even if it's fully charged

Hey guys!I've had this problem for awhile, but I didn't think it was serious.
The battery icon never shows 'plugged in' when the AC is connected. It wouldn't be a problem, but when I try to install a driver it always requests the charging mode...and my windows 7 ultimate edition x64 does not recognise when i plug in the AC.Help, please!
p.s: i've got a hp compaq presario laptop.

You can try running an sfc scan to fix corrupted system files.

SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

Or you could try alternative battery meters. E.g. theres one made by a forum member (Bagaria).

All bios updating needs the computer to be running on AC power, thats normal. Its a safety precaution because if there is a power interruption or the computer enters into standby/hibernation while on battery power, its quite likely the motherboard will get bricked.

Is this the first time you're updating the bios? Make sure you do it only if there is a specific benefit/ problem resolution from doing so and do be careful.

it's the first time i try to update my bios.the AC is plugged in,but the battery icon doesn't show that(it says 100% remaining). It's been like this for awhile, but I didn't think it was a problem, so I didn't try to fix it,until i realized i cannot update bios.

Because there's an error and my laptop wouldn't recognise a mobile internet modem.

In other words, you get the message that AC is not connected when it actually is? Did you check whether the battery is actually getting charged, that is whether you are able to use it for the 2-3 hrs or whatever the battery usually provides? Your battery may be going bad or the AC adapter might be broken or the power-in jack may be faulty, swap these out with spare ones and check. Worst case it could be a hardware failure E.g. the mobo battery circuit may be faulty.

BTW, postpone the bios update till you get this battery issue sorted out.

So I've had this laptop (Toshiba Satellite C650-01V) since 2010 I think (I had it since I started university), and around early this month I've been having problems with my battery: it's not being charged. There's a message that says "plugged in, not charging", and I've tried multiple ways in...
