I was playing the game, the computer turned off instantly and the screen went black. There has been no strange behaviour up to this point. I was playing the game on highest possible settings so it was probably quite power intensive, however, I was playing it the day before, probably for twice as long, with no problems. The processor was overclocked to 3.8 GHz with automatic voltage control. There is no cooling other than the spacious case containing three fans, the processor fan, the video card fan and the PSU fan.

Hmmm...600watts should be enough to power the system. Well, if the power supply is dead there's nothing you can do but replace. After that,if further troubleshooting is required, well...

I would recommend a good quality PS such as Antec or Corsair, to name a couple. There are other manufacture's just as reliable but I can't think of them off the top of my head.

Look at the info I posted about power supplies earlier in this this thread.

    Let us know.

OCZ makes very good power supplies and if that is what it is, either contact the seller about a replacement or contact OCZ about a RMA of it

Even the good manufacturers have a bad one once in a while, just sucks when it happens to be you that gets it. They also tend to have much better protection circuitry in them and usually only take themselves out and not the rest of the components.

ok, new question, how sure can I be that the power supply was the only thing that is broken? I haven't got a spare power supply to see if it works normally without it

A visual inspection of the hardware would work. Look for burnt parts, electrical smells, or fried components. Outside of that, you have to power up the system to see if there are any issues.
