Windows 7: Can't set up wifi card

1394 is your firwire port, not your wireless card. XP will let you network over it like you do with a wired NIC. Make sure the onboard wifi card isn't toggled off by a keyboard key. If there is a status LED that may tell you if its actually turned on or not. Also have a look at the running services and make sure "Wireless zero configuration" is running. Some third party wireless management utilities stop that service and use there own. When you switch back to the built in windows XP one that service doesn't always get started again. Your wireless won't work without it.

Here's device manager:

No usb adapter:

Usb adapter:

you can see the problem in your snip, you want a driver for network controller. do you still have the vista driver? google shows a few choices for Intel PRO wireless 7100 win7 driver, but I suggest you try the manufacturers website.

I should have taken a good look at your screen shoot. Your wifi card with the missing driver is likely one of the devices with a yellow ? after it. Its listed under other devices because windows doesn't now exactly what it is yet. I'd say its likely the one listed as Network Controller. Ethernet Controller would be the onboard NIC and PCI Modem your laptops modem used for dial up Internet. If you google 1394 you will see that it is in fact the other term for FireWire. I wouldn't wast anymore time on that, if it was missing a driver it would have a yellow ? or ! after it.

Will try, I'll post back in windows.

this happens when I search online and when I select the temp folder (not so temp since it stays there) with the driver. This is with network controller.

And I dont even have a firewire. I have ethernet and wifi (neither worked). Wifi is more pressing than ethernet, though, and I figure if I solve the wifi issue, the ethernet can be fixed similarly.

The thing that annoys me the most is that 7 had the ethernet drivers, and grabbed the wifi driver via windows update (connected via ethernet).

And its not that the toshiba drivers didn't work, it doesn't even install the .sys driver!
And where's device manager in ubuntu?

Here's SIW (with link):

OK now we're getting somewhere...
3DP found the driver for ethernet! now that works, but still no wifi:

WAIT... 3DP NET SAVED MY LIFE!!! For those having the same problem, download 3DP net, and install ethernet, then wifi drivers!!
