    formatted an external to fat32

i have a ps3, so i formatted my exHDD to fat32, & it worked on both (my laptop & ps3) fine, than i go out of town for a week, & take my pc. I update it while im gone, once i get back the ps3 reads the HDD but my pc says it is in RAW format, & says it need s to be formatted. it gives it a drive letter & but it will not open.

go back and look through your installed updates and figure out which one it was. if that was all that you changed, or all that you think you changed, i would start there

try to get as much information as you can in one post.

what brand of HDD is it? are there any virtual drives on it? have you disabled, or attempted to disable them?

which third party program did you use? will it show on another computer? post a disc management screen with the drive plugged in. when did the PC stop reading the drive? immediately after you formatted it?

its an HP HDD, with no virtual drives, i used a program called guiformat, it stopped in early october, & it read it fine before that, for a least a month after i formatted it. in disc management it reads it as h drive, & it has 930 gigs. here is a pic of my disk management Twitpic - Share photos on Twitter

I upgraded my HDD in my PS3 as well, and used a 3rd party program named fat32format.

Read up on that and download the program if you like. I think you will find your answer there. Also, I wouldn't bother using a 1TB drive for your PS3 because I don't think it can read a disk that large in FAT32. I could be wrong.
