    Windows forgot I have a CD-ROM drive???

    My computer will boot from bootable CD-Drives, so it's not a physical / plugged inproblem, however, when I go to My Computer in Windows 7, there is no CD-Drive listed!!!

    If I insert a CD, I can hear it spin, but nothing happens. no drive pops up, etc.
    How can I fix this?

    Is this an internal or external CD drive?

    Here are a couple of links related to your problem:
    CD/DVD - can't read or write media
    CD/DVD - missing or is not recognized

    Here are some links which just may fix the problem:

    It was a problem in the registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

    I manually deleted one of the drivers which affected initializing the CD-Rom drive at boot time, but the registry thought it was still there.

    By blanking the UpperFilter and LowerFilter keys and rebooting, the drives now work successfully.

    I am having the exact same problem but am not sure how to access the registry key and go through the steps to blank the different filters.

    How can I get my cd drive to work?

    The drive is a Toshiba 2565GSX, and when I go into device manager and look at it's properties it shows a location of 0. If someone could help explain the steps to fix this problem that would be great!
