What amount of Ram do I have?

    Hello,
Just righting in reference to the fact that I have 4 GBs of memory, but the Desktop Gadget CPU Usage says I only have 2818 MB. Any easy to understand explanations.
Like to get to know the system better. Thanks for any assistance

    This might explain it:

    Installed/usable RAM memory?

    Hello marsmimar,
Thanks for taking time to reply. I agree that might explain it if I knew what the hey it was talking about. I am running 64-bit Ultimate. PC-Wizard indicates I have 4096 MBs. I noticed my virtual memory is set to 2812 MBs and that is the exact amount showing on the CPU Usage Gadget. So I am basically still confused. I do appreciate your assistance.

click START/COMPUTER then "system properties". that page will show you the amount of installed RAM that windows recognizes.
virtual memory is actually space on your hard drive that the operating system uses in case it runs out of RAM.

Click start orb. Type resource monitor into search bar and then click resource monitor.
    Click the Memory tab .

The picture below I highlighted the "In Use" which is actual RAM used at the moment.
Everything else is available for use.
Free isn't doing anything -asleep sort of. Could be awakened at any time.
Standby and the others are ready for immediate use- awake and ready.

Maybe that will help a bit.

Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Performance Information and Tools\Advanced Tools... Click Resource Monitor

What amount of Ram do I have?-memory-usage.jpg

This will tell you how much memory you have installed and how it's being used.

You can hover your mouse over each color bar and it will tell you what it's for.

    Hope this helps.

Dang it, Hopalong X beat me to it

    Thanks kword88,
Your advice confirmed that I have 4.00 GBs. It seems as if the gadget is messed up.
    Appreciate your time and knowledge.

    Hello Hopalong,
Thank your for responding. You clear definition and use of the resource monitor for memory checking was fantastic. I now understand that small portion and it's use.
    Big help!
