I'm using a Hiro 56K V.92 PCI Modem which shows up in Device Manager as Agere because of the Agere (Lucent) chip, but has worked fine in XP, Vista and Windows 7, admittedly I only have 32-bit but it is x64 ready according to its specs. I always let Windows install the driver for it.

Not sure where you are but I got mine at Tiger Direct: Hiro 56K V.92 PCI Modem WHQLx64ServerVista Ready H50006 in Canada at TigerDirect.ca

With FAX modems you'll find that most of them use Agere chips.

This modem is Agere. The problem was seating in the socket. I reseated it and everything started working. Win7 put an MS driver in for it.
    Thanks for the answer.
